Using plants and trees that require minimal amounts of water to survive is a great way to reduce the footprint that is accumulated over the years by traditional plants in your yard. Choosing the right irrigtation system is essential in achieving an Eco-Friendly backyard. A Drip Irrigation systems (micro-irrigation systems) deliver water directly to your plants with the least amount of waste. According to The Colorado State University, Drip Irrigation systems are around 90 percent efficient, whereas traditional sprinkle systems are only around 50-70 percent efficient. Drip Irrigation uses a network of plastic pipes (PVC pipes) to carry a low flow of water under low peasure to the roots of plants. This allows the least amount of water needed to arrive at the plants, with the least amount of waste.

Ive used drip irrigation, its awesome. Way less water used and the plants are 10 times healthier. My mothers yard is on drip irrigation system too, Ill get you some pics of the yard its amazing.

ReplyDeleteIt is neat that you are choosing this topic for your research report due to the fact that especially around this time of year, people are insanely sensitive about the look and feel of their backyards. I believe that most people are picky about how their yard looks because it reflects the nature of their house and their lifestyle, especially if people walk by your place often. They would rather be known for having a good looking yard then the yard that looks disgusting and not put together. I am just wondering how big of a backyard you’re designing and the location, (Much like the comment that Mark suggested on another post) and the selection of how big your irrigation system will be.

This time of the year is essential for people to start realizing that instead of just planting any type of shrubs and trees in their backyard, that they should re-think their ideas.
